To celebrate their exhibition Awaken: Sufi Music & Women of South Asia, which is on until 20 October, the Royal College of Music (RCM) are presenting a series of events.
Thanks to the generous support of the Cockayne Foundation, enjoy poetry and music performances, a documentary screening, a Mughal Miniature soundscape workshop for children and families, as well as curator-led talks and panel discussions. Don’t miss this unique celebration of history, heritage, and harmony!
Family Concert and Workshop - Friday 9 August at 2pm
Artist Fatima Zahra Hassan will soundscape a miniature painting on display in the exhibition. Hear live South Asian music from talented Grand Union Orchestra musicians with opportunities for you and your family to creatively contribute to the performance.

A screening of Indus Blues (2018), which documents the endangered musical heritage of Pakistan by highlighting the plight of folk musicians and craftsmen.

Jasmeet and Harjit Shah have manufactured, supplied, and restored musical instruments for musicians and dancers around the world since founding JAS Musicals in Southall in 1985.
The RCM Museum is delighted to present the unique opportunity to learn about and hear instruments on display in Awaken: Sufi Music & Women of South Asia as Harjit Shah speaks about the craft, production, and restoration of South Asian instruments between London and Delhi.
The talk will be accompanied by performances on selected instruments kindly lent for display by JAS Musicals.
