LSCP Training: Harmful Practices: Experiences in the Latin American community spaces

Audience:         Any practitioners who work directly with children and families in Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster.

Trainer:              Practitioners from LAWRS (Latin American Women’s Rights Service)

Aim:                  Raise awareness about the experience of Harmful Practices in the Latin American community and build confidence within the workforce to identify risks and make effective referrals.

The workshop will include learning around so called honour based abuse, forced marriage, marital rape, forced pregnancy, forced abortion, faith abuse, sexual exploitation and child sexual abuse/exploitation.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Have knowledge of the experience of Harmful Practices in the Latin American Community in the UK
  • Be able to identify risk factors for Latin American families
  • Understand the barriers to women and families accessing services
  • Learn good practice approaches to deal with domestic abuse situations
  • Learn about effective referral pathways
