Description: The Second Half Centre, located in the NHS St Charles Centre for Health and Wellbeing on Exmoor Street W10, opened it’s doors to the over 50s community on October 29th 2012. It is open every Monday to Friday 9:30am to 5:00pm.
The Second Half Foundation (SHF), who created The Second Half Centre, was established with the purpose of building centres throughout the United Kingdom to serve men and women aged 50 plus to ensure that our growing ageing population will have a place to develop more meaningful connections and continue to learn and grow.
The mission is to get our ageing population together doing things they enjoy in a dedicated space: bridging the digital divide, learning new skills to get back to work, rediscovering the pleasures of old hobbies and finding new ones, exercising, and feeling involved through volunteering, mentoring and teaching.
As of 1st April 2014, Open Age now run and manage The Second Half Centre-they have been pioneering an active life for older people for over 20 years, preventing social isolation and loneliness and improving health and well-being. Open Age is a user led charity, working across Kensington, Chelsea and Westminster enabling older people, from 50 to over 100 years of age, to sustain their physical and mental fitness, maintain active lifestyles and develop new and stimulating interests.
Open Age has Over 350 weekly activities are provided from more than 60 sites, which include our the Positive Age Centre in North Kensington, the Open Age Hubs in Westminster as well as community centres, sheltered housing, church halls and libraries.
