Our Community, Our Voice! Session One - Your voice

🌟 Exciting News first date announced, January the 30th. 🌟

The Westway Trust Transformation Funded, Our Community, Our Voices, starts on the 30th of January 2025. This dynamic series of 2-3 hour workshops will run throughout the year, offering monthly evening sessions designed to help you develop key skills, connect with your community, and amplify your voice. It is aimed at North Kensington Residents.

For our first session KCSC are delighted to be hosting Leigh Andrews, speech and language therapist:

🎤 Your Voice: How to Make it Heard! 30th January 2025, Canalside House Baraka Offices, 6 pm to 8:30 pm.

Leigh is a working-class Essex girl, who has used her voice in political campaigns, tribunal and court hearings, and conference settings speaking to hundreds of people.

She has lived in social housing nearly all her life, and has written a book called, "You all f****ing talk too much: meeting communication needs in homelessness settings". She runs Change Communication, the world's first project for homeless people with communication issues. She is also won the prestigious Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists " Fostering equality, diversity and inclusion" Award for 2024.

Leigh has successfully complained about poor service by Councils, Housing Associations and the NHS numerous times, even to the Ombudsman. In short, she has felt the fear of using her voice and done it anyway.

Leigh can't wait to meet with the group and will talk about:

  • What communication is and how our bodies make it happen.
  • Myths, tricks and control in communication.
  • Recognising and responding to communication discrimination, perhaps quite common in North Kensington.
  • Introducing and using ideas about clear communication.
  • Explaining how the voice works and how to look after it
  • Understanding how nerves affects our communication and how to manage that.
