Demsoc and the Listening Forum

Since the launch of the Centre for Public Scrutiny Review we at KCSC have pressed to maintain the good momentum RBKC set early in the year to deliver on the promise to deliver on the twelve recommendations made by CfPS. As part of this delivery, Demsoc have been commissioned to provide a significant plank of the recommendations. Listening Forums, these are a significant step towards the Committees now an advisory panel , which are set to come later with an RBKC Committee discussing these issues on the 24th of the Month, "The aim and objectives of the Listening Forum is to provide a mechanism outside of the Town Hall for the Leadership Team to hear directly from residents in an open format. The Councillors will then take what has been heard, ensure actions are coordinated in response and openly report back to local people on what action has been taken." There will be 6 forums in the weeks to come starting with a meeting  30th October in Chelsea Academy, which is a perhaps signalling that the forums want to build up a head of steam before reaching North Kensington. These developments have the potential to be really dynamic, so we will discussing them at the next "Grenfell Network Meeting" on this with hopefully someone present from Demsoc.

             Grenfell Network Group Meeting

The 1st of November 2 pm - 4.30pm at KCC Wornington Campus is the scheduled date for the next Grenfell Network Group. The provisional agenda is;

  • The future of GNG, the name and perhaps a broader North Kensington remit.
  • Demsoc; The Listening Project and other significant developments - a request has been made for a speaker. Also, Claire Thomas of Opinion Research Services who is sounding out the public and voluntary agencies on the Panels...see above.
  • Local Assets - a request has been made to have a speaker from the successful Library campaign, and the ongoing situation at the college. Additionally, we hope to get an update on the Asset Review.
  • Men's Shed
  • Perla Rembiszewski of Traverse Ltd an independent research company will briefly outline a project with RBKC looking at engaging residents on housing management preferences.
  • Up-coming areas for discussion and action.

Join the conversation for a stronger North Kensington

Under the banner of Creating Even Stronger Communities RBKC have embarked on an extensive round of community events. It would be excellent if these events were well attended and participants empowered to feed into the process.

Community Assets Review

Since the fire, there has been many discussions in the community, within the council and wider on the issue of community assets. People in the council with elements of the community are drawing up the community assets into a register. It is a valuable exercise. The register of assets is now widened incorporating local people as community assets. The Grenfell Network Group will discuss this issue and the need for some urgency in informing the community at the next meeting. We also hope for an update on the success at Library and what it might mean for other assets.

Men's Shed for North Ken - Update

Wow....Since the last bulletin so much has happened. KCSC are chuffed to say that many people of influence and action are now onboard. It seems that people with vital commodities; money, expertise and drive are taking a serious look at how this can be achieved. What we really need now is the very thing to concretise the idea....a shed! The Council and Westway Trust are both considering what can be done, so let's just see what assets can be unlocked to deliver the shed....
