Grenfell Network Bulletin - updates

 

As the North of the Borough emerges from COVID 19 lockdown the number of events that support this will probably multiply. Should you, or your organisation wish to inform KCSC of such events please don't hesitate to register them on our website. If you do not know how to do this then please contact our admin office who are able to talk you through it. Additionally if you have participative events online, or in the physical realm such as those below, please inform the manager of the Community Development, [email protected] and I will endeavour to include them in an ebulletin if possible.

The local NHS services are providing two events in the near future, the first is this Saturday, hosted by the Community Champions

 5th September - support group for families on the topic of the new normal and returning to school

10th September - suicide awareness session

Welcome Busayo!

Unfortunately, the welcome of KCSC's latest member of staff has been very low key. So the fireworks are for her! Busayo Twins joins me in the Community Development Team as the Policy and Voice Development Officer.

I caught up with Busayo this morning to ask a few questions

So Busayo what is your role?

"I'm supporting the team to gather insights from the local community and volunteer sector to better understand the needs of the sector"

What are you doing right now, as I gather you've hit the ground running?

"Ah well COVID 19 has made understanding what's happening right now urgent. So, I'm asking our members to complete the VCS survey as a way to collect vital information about the impact COVID-19 on the voluntary sector, serving as a useful reference point to navigate a way forward.

What do people need to do?

I would much appreciate it if readers could take 15-20 mins of their precious time to fill in the survey, which I know you will attach to this interview Joe, as I want to hear from as much of the sector as possible - all the sector's experiences are important!

Last few days for feedback

 

KCSC's Community Development Service remains keen to receive your feedback on ebulletins and the Grenfell Network Group meetings. This will aid improvement in the service provided whilst helping to inform the wider community of the project value. Of course, it will also help longer term monitoring of service effectiveness, always necessary but perhaps more so in the COVID 19 times.

Sonia from Equal People has informed us of a series of events under the banner NETWORK HOPE are taking place across the next few months. Aimed at those "feeling stressed, anxious or isolated, the workshops aim to explore how to deal with these issues. Contact Sonia to join in.

TEDx 2021
TEDx Ladbroke Grove 2021
        Speaker Call Out

Time is literally about to run out if you want to be party to the TEDx 2021 event, the deadline is the end of this week.

 Aimee Ling, of NOVA the organisation who brought us last year’s wonderful event is taking it on again. Aimee is still keen to hear from local people who have something to say. In fact, Aimee said "This area has such a rich, diverse and talented community - it has people who literally shape the discourse on what is community but also knows how to build events from scratch and no resources!" She wants to stop this being a secret - to let others see what we already know.

Finally, during the last Grenfell Network Group there was a strong desire to amplify the community voice, with feeling that lockdown had retarded progress made during the month running up to it.

The prevailing mood was that this needed urgent attention. With this in mind Grenfell Network Group is looking forward to hosting a Public "in person event" and will be looking for speakers from the community and local charities who would like to bring forward concrete ideas on how to realise the ambitions of the RBKC "Charter for Public Participation" .
