Reminder of Grenfell Network Group open event

The Grenfell Network Group have decided that the time is right to hold our first physical event after several COVID-19 affected months. A recent online meeting of the community section of the group decided that the time was right, and that the need is as great as ever. Therefore, on Thursday 13th of August (after a Doodle Poll) at 10.30am we will meet on Maxilla Way or weather permitting on Maxilla Green near Bay 20.

The meeting will focus on how, after the lockdown, the community/communities and voluntary sector agencies can ensure coproduction is the watchword for interaction with statutory agencies in this "new normal". The meeting will not have officers of the council in attendance as it is purely about the community and agencies figuring out how to ensure the Charter for Public Participation adopted by RBKC, just weeks before lockdown, becomes the gold standard we hoped it would become when our own Charter was incorporated into the Council's charter.

Subsequently we would hope to renew opportunities to speak directly with officers of the council, the NHS and others such as the MHCLG where information can flow in both directions in a mutually beneficial form.

Consultation

Following a formal tender process, MHCLG has appointed a community engagement and consultation specialist to support the Grenfell Tower Memorial Commission and ensure the community’s views help to inform decision-making about the site.

The appointed company is Claremont, a communications agency, working in partnership with another company called Kaizen, a community engagement specialist. MHCLG felt they have the right experience, sensitivity and empathy to work effectively on this project. Kaizen are looking to work with community groups and local partners over the coming weeks to co-design the consultation process so that it is sensitive, fair, transparent and tailored to this community. If you would like to have an introductory meeting with Kaizen, learn more about their work or be involved please contact [email protected]

Engagement will get start in September, aiming to complete and report in early 2021.

A factsheet and letters about the safety works are published on gov.uk - here. A leaflet about the safety works has been distributed to homes and businesses close to the site.

MHCLG have indicated that they would be happy to join any future meeting about safety works or the community engagement specialists that they’re working with? They also suggested they could field appropriate speakers. Perhaps we can discuss this at the socially distanced meeting mentioned above?
