Principles of community development

Kensington & Chelsea Social Council supports voluntary and community groups to improve the quality of life in the borough. It is guided by the principles of community development which include:

Residents have a right to be consulted about decisions that affect their area and this should be done in imaginative and appropriate ways.
Involvement in community groups should be entirely a matter of choice and not of coercion.
Local people should be supported in achieving their own goals provided these are not discriminatory.
The pace of development should be determined by the participants and not by external agencies' needs.

In 2006 KCSC developed its Strategic Plan 2006-09, a detailed account of what we aim to do over three years to enable us to deliver our mission.
