A Fairer Place: Cost of Living Summit

Bringing all stakeholders together to assess the current picture within Kensington and Chelsea and what it means for residents.

The ongoing cost of living crisis has impacted all households, with the impact felt greatest on some residents and communities more than others, particularly those on low incomes. This has exasperated the inequalities and challenges facing residents on top of existing poverty and inequalities that exist within the borough.  This event will focus on identifying key priorities that need to be addressed, we’ll hear from various speakers and workshops will cover a range topics,

Speakers include:

  • Professor Matt Padley; Centre for Research in Social Policy – Minimum Income Standards
  • Morgan Vine; Head of Policy and Influencing; Independent Age – Poverty in later life
  • Nina Parmar; SUFRA - Beyond food banks’
  • Victoria Steward Todd; CEO; K&C Foundation
Findings from the Poverty and Prosperity in K&C; A deepening divide Report
  • Natasha Bishop RBKC Family and Children’s Services – The Early Help Strategy/family offer

The Cost of Living Summit will be running 4 workshops, please find details of the workshops  below.  Bookings for a workshop will take place when you arrive for registration on the day and will operate on a first come first serve basis.  Capacity for each workshop will be 20 people for each.

Life beyond foodbanks, Sufra
An opportunity to hear more about Sufra's work in supporting people from foodbank dependency and to discuss how life beyond foodbanks can work in Kensington and Chelsea.

Poverty in later life - Independent Age
More than two million older people are living in poverty in the UK.  This workshop will share the findings of the poverty in later life project which aims to amplify the voices of older people facing financial hardship in later life.  It will be an opportunity for organisations working with older people or that have an interest in seeking to address growing poverty for older people to discuss what needs to happen next.

Poverty and Prosperity in Kensington and Chelsea: A Deepening Divide, Kensington and Chelsea Foundation
This workshop will explore in more depth the findings of the recent report produced by K&C Foundation which highlights some significant increases in inequality across the borough.  Discussions will focus on what this should mean for Kensington and Chelsea in terms of policy and practice.

Early years and childhood, RBKC
The workshop will explore in more detail the Early Help Strategy and how it addresses cost of living and poverty, the Family and Children's wider offer working with grassroot organisations, multi-agency partnership working via the Family Hubs and examples of how the council is using LIFT data to target the poorest families for help.  Participants can feed into the work that is being delivered.

This meeting is for representatives of local voluntary and community organisations operating in the borough of Kensington & Chelsea. It is not open to members of the public.
